Van Hollenís Statement on the July Jobs Report
DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement on today's news that America lost 51,000 more jobs in July; the unemployment rate climbed to 5.7% - the highest since March 2004 - and our nation has now lost jobs for seven straight months:
"Today's troubling jobs report is the latest sign that the Bush-McCain economic approach is continuing to hurt America's middle class families. With seven straight months of job losses and an unemployment rate now at 5.7%, America's middle class families need an urgent end to the old politics of the status quo. The Bush Administration continues to resist our call for a second stimulus package to boost job creation in America.
"Despite that resistance, our New Direction Congress will continue to offer comprehensive solutions to create jobs, lift wages, and build an economic approach that lifts every American. With Senator Barack Obama as our next President and a stronger Democratic Majority in Congress, we will restore the American dream for hardworking middle class families."
