Van Hollen’s Statement on Representative Neil Abercrombie’s Decision to Step Down
DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement on Congressman Neil Abercrombie’s (HI-01) decision to step down from Congress to focus on his campaign for Governor of Hawaii. Earlier this year, Abercrombie announced he was leaving Congress to run for Governor.
"For nearly two decades, in Congress, Representative Neil Abercrombie has been a tireless fighter for our troops and veterans and a dedicated advocate for providing jobs and economic opportunity for Hawaii’s middle class families.
“On the Armed Services Committee, Representative Abercrombie has worked every day on behalf of the men and women who fight for America. His commitment to improving life for America’s military families and wounded warriors is seen through his leadership in fighting for military pay-raises, better health care and retirement benefits, and building more modern military housing.
“On behalf of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, I thank Representative Abercrombie for his extraordinary leadership and look forward to his help in filling the open seat in HI-01 with a Democrat who shares his commitment to fighting for the best interests of Hawaii’s middle class families.”
