Schweikert Continues to Support New National Consumption Tax
Republican David Schweikert, a candidate for Congress in Arizona's 5th
congressional district, recently re-affirmed his support for a new 23 percent
national consumption tax.
"David Schweikert's plan for a new national consumption tax would raise already high gas and food prices by 23 percent and create even more financial hardships for Arizona families," said Yoni Cohen, Western Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Schweikert's proposal to increase consumption taxes demonstrates that he is far out of touch with the people of Arizona he seeks to represent."

- Schweikert's proposal is similar to the Republican-led effort to pass HR 25, which would impose a 23% tax on all goods and services purchased in the United States in 2009, including gas and food. [http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:HR00025:@@@P]
