Representatives Sutton & Hare to Chair DCCC’s Labor Council
Washington, DC - Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), today announced that Representatives Betty Sutton (OH) and Phil Hare (IL) will co-chair the Labor Council, which leads the DCCC's outreach to the labor community. Representative George Miller (CA) will be an honorary co-chair of the Labor Council.
"The labor community was a critical part of the Democrats' victories in 2006 and 2008 cycles and will be even more important this cycle in helping Democrats' efforts to rebuild the economy," Chairman Van Hollen said. "Representatives Sutton and Hare are leaders in our fight for American workers and will provide invaluable expertise and resources as we continue to tap into the energy around the country to protect and strengthen America's workers."
Representative Sutton said, "I am honored to have the opportunity to work with Chairman Van Hollen and Representative Hare as co-chair of the Labor Council. Labor is the backbone of our economy. I look forward to working together as we work toward our common agenda which includes making health care more accessible and affordable, creating jobs and restoring the promise of the middle class."
Representative Hare said, "As someone who has spent most of my adult life as a union member, I know firsthand all the good organized labor has done for working families and our economy as a whole. I look forward to working with Congresswoman Betty Sutton, a true champion, to reform our labor laws, strengthen collective bargaining rights, improve workplace safety, and give more families access to the American Dream."
