NRCC Refuses to Cut off Grimm, Keeps $25K of Grimm’s Scandal-Tainted Contributions
The National Republican Congressional Committee is refusing to promise to cut off indicted Congressman Michael Grimm, despite his arrest by the FBI and a 20-count indictment against him. Not only is the NRCC refusing to rule out supporting Grimm, the organization is sitting on $25,000 from Grimm’s PAC and NRCC Chairman Greg Walden has not asked for a refund on the $12,000 he has contributed to Grimm’s campaign.
“Republican Leadership promised zero tolerance for ethics problems, but that isn’t stopping the NRCC leaving the door open to pour resources into indicted Congressman Michael Grimm’s race,” said Josh Schwerin of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “If the NRCC wants to show that they don’t and won’t support Grimm they need to give back his $25,000 and Chairman Walden needs to demand his $12,000 in donations to Grimm be returned.”

NRCC Said It Would “Continue to Assess” Grimm’s Campaign, Received $25,000 from Grimm’s PAC Last Year. The New York Daily News reported: “‘We will continue to assess Congressman Grimm’s re-election campaign while these legal proceedings are ongoing,’ National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Ian Prior told the Daily News in a statement responding to questions on whether the committee will keep backing Grimm.” In December 2013, Grimm’s GRIMM PAC contributed $25,000 to the NRCC.
