Itís Time to Walk the Walk, Representative Heller
Heller says "we can ill afford to lose...jobs" yet votes against economic recovery package
Yesterday, Representative Dean Heller told the Elko Daily Free Press, "...we can ill afford to lose any jobs in Nevada, or anywhere else for that matter."
Who could argue with that?
So why then, with Nevada experiencing high unemployment and with the Silver State in the throes of a housing crisis, would Heller oppose legislation to create jobs and cuts taxes for Nevadans?
"Congressman Heller may talk the talk on jobs for hard-working Nevadans, but he failed to walk the walk," said Andy Stone, Western Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Not just once, but twice, Congressman Heller voted against the economic recovery package which would have created or saved 10,600 jobs in his district alone. Instead of just talking about jobs for his constituents, Congressman Heller should be doing something about it."
In just one year, Nevada's unemployment rate jumped from 5.2 to 9.1 percent and nearly 120,000 Nevadans are now looking for work. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which Representative Heller failed to support, will immediately jump-start the economy, create jobs, and help struggling families and communities.
