FACT CHECK: House Has Passed Zero Bills to Keep the Government Open

On ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos, House Speaker John Boehner falsely claimed that: “The House has passed four bills to keep the government open.”

In reality, House Republicans are pursuing a piecemeal approach that is pitting Americans against each other and Speaker Boehner is refusing to allow a vote on a measure that would reopen the government for all Americans immediately. Democrats have offered measures to re-open the government 7 times.

Talking Points Memo reported that Republicans “rejected Wednesday an effort by House Democrats to put a clean temporary spending bill on the floor, closing one opportunity to re-open the federal government” and Fox News reported that they “reject effort to consider clean CR to re-open gov't on procedural vote.”

House Republicans Have Voted Seven Times Against Efforts to Re-Open the Government. House Republicans voted at least seven times against efforts to vote on a clean government funding resolution by allowing consideration of the Senate-passed continuing resolution.
