Do Tim Walberg And Brian Rooney Support Congressman Steve King’s (R-IA) Bill To Overturn Health Insurance Reform?
Michigan voters want to know if Republican primary candidates in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, Tim Walberg and Brian Rooney, support legislative efforts to overturn health insurance reform. Already, both Walberg and Rooney have come out calling for a repeal of reform, which includes immediate changes that help Michigan’s seniors, small business owners, and children.
“Tim Walberg and Brian Rooney are chomping at the bit to reverse the health insurance reform Michiganders have been demanding for years,” said Gabby Adler, Midwestern Regional Press Secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Does this mean that if they were in Congress, they would cosponsor Congressman Steve King’s legislation to re-open the Medicare “donut hole” hurting seniors, reverse tax credits for local small business to allow them to afford health coverage, and allow insurance companies to once again deny coverage to children with pre-existing conditions?”
When comprehensive health insurance reform is signed into law by the President, it will include the following immediate reforms:
- Tax credits for small business owners who purchase health insurance
- Seniors with high prescription drug costs who find themselves in the prescription drug donut hole will receive $250 to help pay for prescriptions, and the donut hole will be fully eliminated in the future
- Insurance companies will no longer be able to deny coverage to children with pre-existing conditions [ABC News, 3/22/10]
