DCCC’s Kelly Ward Unveils the “Rosie” Model, Democrats’ Outreach to Single Women Voters

With unmarried women a major target for the 2014 midterms, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is unveiling an effort to turn out this key electoral group with a voter model called “Rosie.”

Inspired by Rosie the Riveter, the “Rosie” model (Reengaging Our Sisters in Elections) aims to identify and turn out the unmarried women who are most likely to drop off in the midterm election – and whose lives are enormously affected by a Republican Congress that blocks equal pay, delayed the Violence Against Women Act for 500 days and restricts women’s health access and choices.

DCCC Executive Director Kelly Ward spoke with NPR’s Mara Liasson this morning about the DCCC’s outreach to unmarried women voters.

“We can identify a voter by their marital status and then match that to a turnout model that helps us identify those unmarried women who when they vote they will vote for Democrats, but are not likely to vote this cycle,” Ward said. “We want to go after those voters and start a conversation with them about how this election has a stake in their lives and why they should care about it.”
