DCCC Statement on Katherine Clark’s Win in Massachusetts House Primary Race
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement to congratulate State Senator Katherine Clark on winning the Democratic primary tonight.
“Congratulations to State Senator Katherine Clark on her victory in tonight’s Democratic primary, and thank you to all of our terrific Democratic candidates for stepping forward. Katherine Clark is a dedicated public servant who is committed to helping create good jobs and fight for equal pay – and we will be excited to welcome her to the growing ranks of women in the Democratic caucus.
“At a time when this House Republican Congress is mired in reckless chaos, Katherine will be a voice for the people of eastern Massachusetts, who are seeking problem-solvers who stand up for middle class families. Katherine will be a voice for the middle class, and I am confident that the people of Massachusetts’ 5th district will agree, and in December will elect her to this Democratic seat, which President Obama won with two-thirds of the vote in both 2008 and 2012.”
Background on MA-05:
- President Obama won a commanding majority of the vote in the district in 2008 (67.3 percent) and 2012 (66.2 percent);
- In the 2012 congressional election, Ed Markey received 75.6 percent of the vote in the district;
- The Cook Report’s Partisan Voting Index (PVI) score for the district is D+14.
