DCCC Launches Web Ad With Real Students Describing Impact of Interest Rates Doubling
Today, student loan interest rates doubled because the dysfunctional and chaotic House Republicans cannot compromise.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released a new web video highlighting the impact of House Republicans’ failure to prevent student loan interest rates from doubling, and how House Republicans’ dysfunction will hurt students and middle class families all over the country. The average college student graduates with $26,000 in student loan debt, and recent reports show that student loan debt may be having a ripple effect on the economy.
“College students already have to worry about finding a job in this economy, but now thanks to the dysfunction of House Republicans, they also have to worry about paying more in student loan interest rates,” said Emily Bittner of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “House Republicans should be working to make college more affordable and accessible, but instead they’d rather stand with the wealthy and special interests. Speaker Boehner and House Republicans should be ashamed that middle class families are paying the price for their dysfunction.”
