DCCC Launches Paid Grassroots Calls to Urge Republicans to Give Up Repeal Agenda
On the third anniversary of the first Republican vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is launching a paid grassroots campaign to urge 21 vulnerable House Republicans to give up their repeal-only agenda that would take the country back to the days when insurance companies could do whatever they want to raise rates, drop coverage and deny care.
The DCCC’s automated phone calls urge Americans to call these 21 Members of Congress so that constituents can demand that they stop defending insurance company contributors and start siding with the middle class.
Three years ago, John Boehner and House Republicans held their first vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and they have since held nearly 50 votes that would repeal or undermine the law. The calls begin today and continue through this week.
“The saga of John Boehner’s singular obsession with repealing the Affordable Care Act is one of the reasons that this Republican Congress is more reviled than at any point in modern history – voters know that Republicans in Congress are inflicting damage on our economy with their one-note agenda,” said Josh Schwerin of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Republicans in Congress even shut down the government over repealing the Affordable Care Act, all so insurance companies could go back to doing whatever they wanted to raise rates, drop coverage and deny care. Americans want the law improved, but Republicans in Congress want to vote again and again to benefit their insurance company contributors even if it means middle class families lose coverage if they have a pre-existing conditions and face rate hikes to pay for big bonuses.”
An example of the call script running against vulnerable Republican House members is below:
For three years, your Congressman has been obsessed with one thing. Not jobs. Not the economy. Not opportunity.
Can you guess what he’s done instead?
Nearly 50 times, Congressman Mike Coffman and Republicans in Congress have voted to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act – not to fix it. Congressman Coffman would take us back to a time when insurance companies could do whatever they wanted to raise rates, drop coverage and deny care. You don’t want to go back to a time when hardworking families had to declare bankruptcy because of health care costs.
Congressman Coffman should be focusing on STRENGTHENING the economy. Instead he’s trying to take away YOUR health care protections. Tell him to get his priorities straight. Call Congressman Coffman at 202.225.7882.
