DCCC Chairman Steve Israel’s Statement on Congressman Moran’s Retirement in VA-08
DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement after Congressman Jim Moran announced his retirement in Virginia’s 8th Congressional district.
“Jim has been a tremendous representative for Northern Virginia for more than three decades, from his time in local office through his distinguished tenure in Congress. As a leader on the Appropriations Committee, Jim was a champion for his district, the defense of our nation and the technology infrastructure that fuels his district’s future. Having served with him on the Appropriations Committee, I know his leadership will be greatly missed.
“This is a solidly Democratic district that President Obama won with nearly 70 percent of the vote, and I’m confident that the people of this district will elect another problem-solving Democrat to follow in Jim’s very large footsteps.
“Nationwide, the battlefield for open competitive seats in 2014 continues to tilt heavily toward House Democrats, as many more Republicans in swing seats have been fleeing office rather than attempt to defend the indefensible record of John Boehner’s Republican caucus.”
