DCCC Chairman Steve Israel Statement on ME-02
DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement about the general election in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District:
“I congratulate Emily Cain on her victory tonight. Emily Cain is a problem solver who will put Maine’s middle class families and seniors first, and she is deeply committed to helping to create more good jobs and boost the region’s economy. In this solidly Democratic district, Emily will continue to focus on the right priorities and be a stand-out voice for the people of Maine.”
“On the other hand, Bruce Poliquin wants to stack the deck for the special interests and the ultra-wealthy at the expense of the middle class and his irresponsible agenda is completely out of touch with the voters of this district who have elected a Democrat to Congress for the last two decades.”
- Mainers have elected a Democrat to represent this district in Congress in every election since 1994.
- In 2010, the most challenging year for Democrats in recent history, Mike Michaud was re-elected by a 10-point margin.
- President Obama won this district by a 9-point margin over Mitt Romney in 2012 and a 10-point margin over John McCain in 2008.
- A Republican lost by a 16-point margin in the most recent election.
