DCCC Chairman Steve Israel Statement on Gun Violence Prevention Task Force
DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement today about the principles outlined by the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force led by Representative Mike Thompson (CA-05):
“Representative Mike Thompson and his colleagues on the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force have done serious work and laid out an important framework for reducing gun violence while protecting the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.
“As our country comes together around sensible measures to prevent gun violence, the silence from House Republicans is not just deafening – it’s dangerous. House Republicans continue to stand in the way of these commonsense solutions supported by a vast majority of Americans. When children do not feel safe in their classroom and Americans don’t feel they can walk the streets without fear of mass shootings, something must be done.
“With these recommendations, today marks an important day: a united front from Democrats to stop gun violence. The President has laid out his goals and the Senate is moving forward with sensible proposals. It is only Tea Party House Republicans who remain silent on Americans’ safety.”
