BREAKING: Reports Say Republican Leaders Caved To Tea Party Demand To Shut Down Government Over

According to a breaking news report from the conservative National Review Online, “Leadership sources tell me the House GOP will soon vote on a continuing resolution that simultaneously funds the federal government and defunds Obamacare.” The NRO reported that “conservatives who have been urging Boehner to back a defunding effort as part of the CR have won a victory.”

This morning, the conservative Wall Street Journal Editorial Board compared that plan to “threaten(ing) to crash their Zeros into the aircraft carrier of ObamaCare” and a “Kamikaze mission” that ”rarely turns out well, least of all for the pilots.” The Journal even warned that “the kamikazes could end up ensuring the return of all-Democratic rule.” Beyond the politics, the Journal wrote, “[t]his all-or-nothing posture also usually results in worse policy.”

“The House Republican leadership just surrendered their keys to the extreme Tea Party fringe, and now the inmates have officially taken over the asylum,” said Emily Bittner of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “It’s now the official Republican position to shut down the government unless they get their way: to give insurance companies free rein to spike premiums, balloon insurance companies’ profits, and take away consumer protections. This morning the conservative Wall Street Journal editorial board called this a ‘Kamikaze mission’ and now the Republican leaders are the pilots.”
