Emanuel Statement on Baker's Insensitive Public Housing Comments
Statement of DCCC Chair Rahm Emanuel in Response to Rep. Baker's Extraordinarily Insensitive Comments about Hurricane Katrina's Victims
"In the wake of this catastrophe, we've seen countless stories of courage and caring, as Americans have opened their hearts and their homes to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. It's sad that Mr. Baker does not find in his heart that same compassion for his fellow citizens. This is a time for our country to come together, not be divided further."

Rep. Richard Baker (R-LA) was quoted in this morning's Wall Street Journal on the destruction of Louisiana from Hurricane Katrina:
"We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn't do it, but God did." ["Washington Wire," Wall Street Journal, 9/9/05].
