What John Boehner Says Vs. What John Boehner Does

Speaker John Boehner says that he wants to pass immigration reform in the House of Representatives before the August recess, but House Republicans voted on Thursday to restart deporting an estimated 800,000 DREAM-Act eligible young people.

It’s clear that as Speaker, John Boehner says he wants to do one thing, but then is so beholden to the extreme ideology of the Tea Party that he does another.

What John Boehner Says:  Speaker John Boehner “is beginning to sketch out a road map to try to pass some version of an overhaul in his chamber - a welcome sign for proponents of immigration reform.” [Politico, 6/10/13]

What John Boehner Does: “The Republican-controlled House voted Thursday to resume the deportation of hundreds of thousands of immigrants brought illegally to the United States as children, the first immigration-related vote in either chamber of Congress this year and a measure of the daunting challenge facing supporters of a sweeping overhaul of existing law on the subject.” [Associated Press, 6/6/13]
