NRCC Chairman Admits It, #GOPShutdown is Because of the Tea Party
According to a Daily Beast report this morning, NRCC Chairman Greg Walden is trying to place blame for his party’s reckless shutdown on the Tea Party - admitting in a closed-door meeting with business executives something we all know to be true.
“Listen,” Walden said, according to several people present. “We have to do this because of the Tea Party. If we don’t, these guys are going to get primaried and they are going to lose their primary.”
A new CBS News poll this morning showed how right Chairman Walden is.
- 72 percent of Americans disapprove of #GOPShutdown over the Affordable Care Act while only 25 percent support it. The opposition grows to 76 percent among independents.
- However, 57 percent of the Republican base – the Tea Party – approve of the government shutdown.
Republicans have pushed this reckless and irresponsible #GOPShutdown in order to fulfill a Tea Party fantasy of defunding the Affordable Care Act. Middle class families are suffering because of Republican recklessness and it’s time for a vote to end it.
