FACT CHECK: Speaker Boehner Falsely Claims Republican Agenda Is Not Only Repeal

Republican Speaker John Boehner, under pressure for House Republicans’ politically toxic repeal-only agenda, falsely claimed in his district this week that he doesn’t think repealing the Affordable Care Act is the answer. This flies in the face of years of his Republican Congress’ votes and rhetoric:

  • 52 votes to repeal
  • 0 votes to replace
  • 0 plans to replace

Republican Speaker John Boehner: “House Republicans will continue working to end the Affordable Care Act even if the Obama administration meets its target enrollment figures in the coming hours, Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) said Monday […] ‘House Republicans will continue to work to repeal this law and protect families and small businesses from its harmful consequences,’ he added.” [Washington Post, 3/31/14]

Republican Leader Eric Cantor: “Megan Whittemore, a spokeswoman for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), reiterated on Wednesday that the party’s official policy on the law is repeal.” [The Hill, 12/05/13]
