Draft Ron Paul!

I was actually digging around, compiling materials for “Conservatives on Bush and DeLay,” and one name kept coming up: Ron Paul (R-TX14).

Ring any bells?  Well he gained some fame last year for a very long, and very abusive floor statement entitled “Neo-conned”, which had a section on “what neocons believe” that included:

They agree with Trotsky on permanent revolution, violent as well as intellectual.

They are not bashful about an American empire; instead they strongly endorse it.

They believe lying is necessary for the state to survive.

They believe pertinent facts about how a society should be run should be held by the elite and withheld from those who do not have the courage to deal with it.

They dislike and despise libertarians (therefore, the same applies to all strict constitutionalists.)

They endorse attacks on civil liberties, such as those found in the Patriot Act, as being necessary.

Apparently, he also writes a generally scathing weekly column (although I’m unclear on exactly what that means).  A couple months ago he wrote on the President’s marriage initiative:

The irony is that an initiative aimed at promoting moral values will be funded immorally, by taxing people who may have no interest in such government folly.

Now that’s what I call dissent!  To say nothing of his “Iraq: Claim vs. Fact,” which puts the Center for American Progress to the test.  And no, I was not kidding, there really is a Draft Ron Paul movement afoot.  Of course, if your beef with Bush and friends is more closely related to the lack of ten-ton monuments of the Ten Commandments in the Supreme Court, there’s always Draft Roy Moore too.

P.S.- We are certainly not endorsing Mr. Paul, nor his generally extreme conservative views for that matter.  After all, we do not consider Roe v. Wade to be “Judicial Activism.”
