DCCC Launches New Automated Phone Calls In 13 Districts On Republicans Voting to End Medicare

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) today launched a new round of automated phone calls as part of the paid and grassroots campaign to hold House Republicans accountable for choosing to end Medicare rather than end taxpayer giveaways for Big Oil companies making record profits or tax breaks for millionaires.  The new calls in 13 targeted districts is the latest phase in the “Drive for 25” campaign, the DCCC's plan to win the House.
“Americans are rejecting House Republicans' choice to end Medicare instead of ending subsidies for Big Oil companies and tax breaks for millionaires, while raising the debt limit $2 trillion,” said Jesse Ferguson of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “The DCCC will go district by district to hold House Republicans accountable for making seniors sacrifice, while Big Oil and multimillionaires don't share the sacrifice.”

The calls begins today in the following districts:

  • AZ-03 Ben Quayle
  • FL-08  Daniel Webster
  • IA-04  Steve King
  • IL-17   Bobby Schilling
  • NH-02 Charlie Bass
  • NJ-03  Jon Runyan
  • NV-03 Joe Heck
  • NY-19 Nan Hayworth
  • NY-25 Anne Marie Buerkle
  • OH-01 Steve Chabot
  • PA-11  Lou Barletta
  • SD-AL Kristi Noem
  • VA-02 Scott Rigell

An example of an automated phone call in Representative Jon Runyan’s (NJ-03) district follows:

Hi, I’m calling from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee about Congressman Jon Runyan’s vote to end Medicare and increase the debt.

You’ve paid into Medicare for more than 25 years and earned Medicare benefits. But under the Runyan plan, Medicare will end and you’ll have to save about $182,000 more to pay for your health care from private insurance companies.  But millionaires and corporations get even bigger tax breaks.

For all of Runyan’s talk about reducing the debt, his plan to end Medicare actually increases the debt by almost $2 trillion because of more tax breaks for millionaires and corporations.

We must cut spending and tighten our belt, but Runyan made the wrong choice.  Ending Medicare to pay for subsidies for Big Oil and tax breaks for millionaires, while increasing the debt!  That’s not right.

Earlier in the week, the DCCC released a powerful new web video at that features Americans speaking out in their own words about the importance of Medicare benefits they have earned through a lifetime of hard work. Everyone agrees we must cut spending and tighten our belt, but House Republicans have made all the wrong choices.
