DCCC Chairman Steve Israel’s Statement on Medicare’s 48th Anniversary
DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement on Medicare’s 48th Anniversary:
“Today marks the 48th anniversary of President Johnson signing Medicare into law, but House Republicans are on a mission to make Medicare’s 48th birthday its last. House Republicans have repeatedly voted to end the Medicare guarantee that seniors have earned and force seniors to negotiate with private insurance companies for coverage – all so that they can protect tax breaks for special interests.
“When House Republicans refuse to cooperate with Democrats on our nation’s budget, they are refusing to protect and strengthen Medicare for our nation’s seniors. The American people have made it clear time and again: they want Medicare to see its 49th birthday and beyond.”
